A proud native of Cincinnati, Dr. Donath has traveled extensively to hone his skills through first-hand experience with the best facial plastic surgeons in the world, from Beverly Hills to New York City, in order to bring that expertise back to his hometown. It was in Cincinnati where he grew up in a distinctly medical family, with his father a physician and his mother a nurse. The course of medicine through the family did not begin there, though – 14 other doctors preceded Dr. Donath in setting a standard for excellence.
Dr. Donath graduated summa cum laude (highest honors) from Ohio University, where he was a scholarship recipient and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. He then completed medical school at the University of Cincinnati, widely recognized as one of the top medical centers in the country, where he was President of the school’s American Medical Student Association chapter, Secretary of the Surgery club, and where he was selected from among his peers for a Research Scholars grant.
Even before medical school, Dr. Donath knew his interest was in surgery, and so during medical school when he fell in love with the anatomy of the face, head, & neck, he elected to pursue a goal of becoming a leader in facial plastic surgery by completing a rigorous five-year residency training program in all aspects of Head and Neck Surgery at St. Louis University, including extensive experience in Facial Plastic Surgery. During this residency, he was fortunate to learn the latest techniques in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery from Harvard-trained Facial Plastic Surgery faculty. He additionally spent time studying at Harvard Medical School with the Director of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Mack Cheney, gaining invaluable insights on a multitude of procedures while working with Dr. Cheney and his team directly in the operating room at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. Dr. Donath is involved with many charitable organizations.
Earlier in residency, Dr. Donath had the unique opportunity to attend a master’s course in rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), at which he learned from some of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in the world. Dr. Donath was stimulated by the challenging nature of this most unforgiving area of the face, and the fact that nose reshaping surgery is widely recognized as the most difficult procedure in all of plastic surgery. It was this interest that led him to seek out the best possible fellowship training in rhinoplasty. This, in turn, led to the honor of being selected from among his peers for a highly competitive fellowship in facial plastic surgery with the Glasgold Group. These surgeons, located in the suburbs of New York City, are recognized as among the best in the world in facial cosmetic surgery procedures, such as facelifting, injectible fillers, and the correction of post-surgical nasal deformities created by other surgeons (revision rhinoplasty), including those in Manhattan, the rest of the U.S., and indeed the rest of the world. These surgeons are also the pioneers of Complementary Fat Grafting–the use of a patient’s own fat cells to naturally restore volume in the face which all patients lose with age, to complement other facial procedures – and Dr. Donath is the exclusive surgeon in the Tristate Area to have been personally trained in this revolutionary technique.
During fellowship, Dr. Donath also maintained his commitment to academics with multiple presentations including one at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) in Washington, D.C. He also wrote an invited expert commentary on state-of-the-art facial rejuvenation for the internationally-renowned journal Current Opinion in Otolaryngology, which adds to his numerous prior publications.
